The Ambassador
"The Ambassador" pandered to one of Israel's biggest obsessions: its global image amid the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Drawn from some 5,000 applicants to a bogus ad for a PR job in New York, the 14 contestants were judged on their ability to promote and defend Israel at home and abroad.
"The image of Israel in the eyes of the world is still one of army uniforms and helmets. If we can change that, it will be fantastic," says Elad Kuperman, who produced the show for Channel 2 franchisee Keshet.
Beginning in November, the show was an immediate hit, topping the ratings throughout its 12-week run. The final episode was watched by 1.5 million viewers, which equals 25% of the population.
